About Us
Heather Matheson is the founder of Marpe Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine in Katy, Texas. She is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist by the Texas Medical Board and nationally board-certified in Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Heather received a doctorate degree, DACM, and master’s degree, MAOM from the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Houston, TX.
She was also a faculty member, a clinic supervisor, at the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).
Prior to becoming an acupuncturist, she received a bachelor’s degree (South Korea) and studied Biology at Montana State University. Outside of her practice, Heather enjoys reading books, writing, walking, drawing, painting, and spending time with her family. She also enjoys volunteering for community services for the underserved.

DACM & MAOM
The Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine program is approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The Master of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine program of the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). The American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine is authorized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to conduct courses, grant degrees, grant credit toward degrees, and to use certain protected academic terms in the State of Texas.
Diplomate of Oriental Medicine
A Diplomate of Oriental Medicine is a practitioner who is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM®) and is certified in both acupuncture and Chinese herbology. It is a considerable professional achievement to earn the designation Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). NCCAOM certification shows employers, patients, and peers that one has met national standards for the safe and competent practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbology as defined by the acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM) profession.

Texas Licensed Acupuncturist
Acupuncturists are licensed by the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners (TSBAE), a division of The Texas Medical Board, to practice acupuncture, which is defined as the insertion of an acupuncture needle and the application of moxibustion to specific areas of the human body as a primary mode of therapy to treat and mitigate a human condition, including the evaluation and assessment of the condition; and the administration of thermal or electrical treatments or the recommendation of dietary guidelines, energy flow exercise, or dietary or herbal supplements in conjunction with the treatment.
